Compress Images Online
Compress JPG, PNG and WebP images locally in your browser. Resize large images, reduce file size and download individually or as a ZIP.
What this tool does
NexKit Compress Image reduces image file size in your browser for supported JPG, PNG, and static WebP files. You can adjust quality, set optional maximum width or height, and download each result after the browser finishes encoding it.
Compression results depend on the image format and content. JPEG and WebP often respond well to lower quality settings. PNG files may not become much smaller unless they are resized, and some already optimized images may not shrink.
How to compress images
Open the Compress Image page, choose one or more JPG, PNG, or static WebP files, and review the selected file names, sizes, and dimensions. Use the quality slider for JPEG and WebP output, and optionally set a maximum width or height when large images need to be scaled down.
Run compression, then download individual successful results or use the ZIP button to package all successful outputs. If the encoded result is larger than the source file, the tool keeps the original file for download and reports no reduction.
Supported formats
This release supports JPG, PNG, and static WebP images. It does not support GIF, SVG, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, or animated image workflows. File type checks use image headers as well as browser metadata, so a fake extension alone is not enough to pass validation.
PNG transparency is preserved through the Canvas workflow. Animated WebP is not preserved, and GIF is rejected instead of being converted into a still image without warning.
Privacy and local processing
Images are processed locally in your browser for this tool. NexKit does not upload selected images to a server, store image blobs in browser storage, or send file contents to a cloud conversion service for this workflow.
Files remain part of the current browser session. Refreshing or closing the page clears the selected files and generated Blob URLs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compress Image processes supported images locally in your browser. The selected files are not uploaded to NexKit servers by this tool.
Which image formats are supported?
This tool supports JPG, PNG, and static WebP images. GIF, SVG, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, and animated image workflows are not supported in this release.
Why is my PNG not much smaller?
Browser PNG encoding does not reliably use the quality slider for same-size PNG files. Resizing a large PNG is usually more effective than quality changes alone.
What happens if the compressed result is larger?
The tool keeps the original file for download and reports no reduction, instead of replacing your file with a larger encoded result.
Does compression remove metadata?
Canvas re-encoding usually removes metadata such as EXIF and GPS, but this tool is not a dedicated metadata removal workflow and does not guarantee every metadata case.
Can I compress multiple images?
Yes. You can process multiple supported images and download each successful output individually or together as a ZIP.
Can I download all results as a ZIP?
Yes. The ZIP download includes successful results only and is generated locally in your browser.
Does it support animated WebP or GIF?
No. GIF is rejected, and animated WebP is not preserved by the Canvas compression workflow. Use this tool for static images only.
