PDF to Excel Online

Extract tabular text from a PDF into an editable Excel spreadsheet online in your browser without uploading your file to a server.

What this tool does

NexKit PDF Tools converts a PDF into an editable Excel spreadsheet by reading the text already embedded in the PDF and using each piece of text's position on the page to rebuild rows and columns - not by using AI to guess table structure, but by directly measuring where text sits on the page.

This tool does not detect whether your PDF actually contains a table. It works best on PDFs that already contain a real table - an invoice, a report, an exported spreadsheet - and will still produce output for non-tabular PDFs, but as one line per row in a single column rather than a meaningfully organized table.

How to convert PDF to Excel

Open the PDF to Excel page and choose a PDF. The browser reads the text layer from every page, groups it into rows and columns based on position, and builds a .xlsx file you can download immediately - the whole process runs in your browser.

Open the downloaded .xlsx file in Excel or a compatible spreadsheet editor and review the extracted rows before relying on them.

Accuracy and limits

This MVP accepts PDF files up to 25MB and up to 100 pages. Extracted values are always written as plain text, even when they look like numbers - convert columns to numbers in Excel afterward if you need to calculate with them.

Scanned or image-only PDFs are rejected with a clear error, since there is no text layer to extract - run OCR PDF first to add a searchable text layer, then convert the result with this tool. Password-protected PDFs and damaged PDFs are also rejected with a clear error.

Privacy and file handling

Supported PDFs are processed locally in your browser, including text extraction and building the .xlsx file. Your PDF and the resulting spreadsheet are not uploaded to NexKit servers for this workflow.

Keep your original PDF until you have confirmed the converted spreadsheet meets your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my PDF files uploaded?

No. Supported PDFs are processed locally in your browser, including text extraction and building the spreadsheet. The file is not uploaded to NexKit servers by this tool.

Does this detect tables automatically?

Not exactly - it rebuilds rows and columns from where text sits on the page, without first checking whether the PDF actually contains a table. It works best on PDFs that already contain a real table; non-tabular text still produces output, but as one column of lines rather than an organized table.

Will numbers be usable for calculations in Excel?

Not automatically. Every extracted value is written as text, even if it looks like a number. Convert the relevant columns to numbers in Excel if you need to calculate with them.

Does this work on scanned PDFs or photos of documents?

No. This tool extracts text that is already embedded in the PDF. Scanned or image-only PDFs have no text layer, so there is nothing to extract. Run OCR PDF first to add a searchable text layer, then convert the result.

How many pages can I convert at once?

This MVP supports PDFs with up to 100 pages and files up to 25MB.
