Add Background Color to Image

Add a solid background color to transparent PNG and WebP images directly in your browser. Preview your chosen color and download without uploading files.

What this tool does

NexKit Add Background Color to Image places a solid color behind transparent or semi-transparent pixels that already exist in a PNG or static WebP image. It is useful for transparent product photos, icons, screenshots, and assets that need a white, black, or brand-color background.

The output keeps the browser-decoded width and height. PNG input downloads as PNG, and static WebP input downloads as WebP when the browser supports Canvas WebP encoding.

How to add a background color

Upload one or more PNG or static WebP images, choose a background color with the color picker or a #RRGGBB hex value, then compare the original transparency view with the result preview.

When the preview looks right, apply the background color to create full-resolution output. Single images can be downloaded directly, and multiple successful outputs can be packaged into a ZIP generated locally in your browser.

Supported image types

This MVP accepts PNG and static WebP images. JPEG is intentionally rejected because it does not contain transparent pixels and would usually make this tool look like a no-op.

GIF, APNG, animated WebP, SVG, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, and unknown formats are rejected. Animated images are not silently converted to their first frame.

Background color vs background removal

This tool adds a solid color behind transparent areas that already exist in the image. It does not automatically remove an existing background, detect a subject, erase pixels, or use AI segmentation.

If your image is fully opaque, the selected background color may not be visible. The tool still allows processing and shows a warning when no transparent areas are detected in the preview sample.

Privacy and local processing

Images are composited locally in your browser for this tool. NexKit does not upload selected images, generated image blobs, source filenames, or image contents to a server for this workflow.

Canvas re-encoding usually removes original EXIF, GPS, ICC, XMP, and other metadata. ICC color profile preservation is not guaranteed, and WebP lossless source files are not guaranteed to remain lossless after browser encoding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Add Background Color to Image processes supported PNG and static WebP files locally in your browser. The selected files and generated outputs are not uploaded to NexKit servers by this tool.

Which image formats are supported?

This MVP supports PNG and static WebP images. JPEG, GIF, APNG, animated WebP, SVG, HEIC, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, and unknown formats are rejected.

Does this remove an existing background?

No. This tool only adds a solid color behind transparent pixels that already exist in the image. It does not detect the subject, remove opaque backgrounds, or use AI background removal.

What happens if my image has no transparent pixels?

The file can still be processed, but the selected background color may not be visible. The page shows a non-blocking warning when no transparent areas are detected in the preview sample.

Can I choose JPEG output?

No. This MVP preserves the source format: PNG stays PNG and WebP stays WebP. Use Image Converter after applying a background color if you need a different output format.

Can I process multiple images?

Yes. One shared background color is applied to all selected valid images, and successful outputs can be downloaded individually or as a ZIP.

Does this preserve metadata?

No. Canvas re-encoding usually does not preserve original EXIF, GPS, ICC, XMP, IPTC, or comments. ICC color profile preservation is not guaranteed.
